How a leading telecom provider built resilience and scale by migrating OSS & BSS to AWS
A leading telecommunications provider delivering connectivity and digital solutions to enterprises worldwide set out to modernize its infrastructure and improve its ability to handle growing and fluctuating workloads. Its existing environment faced scalability and reliability challenges that could affect business continuity, customer experience, and operational efficiency. Flentas, an AWS Advanced Consulting Partner, migrated critical OSS and BSS applications to AWS, introducing multi-region resilience, automated disaster recovery, and a more standardized security posture.
A structured, security-first AWS migration
Flentas designed the migration around the requirements of the provider's critical workloads, covering compute, databases, availability, networking, security, and disaster recovery.
- 01
The workloads were migrated to AWS using Amazon EC2, MongoDB, and Redis as core compute and data components. Auto-scaling mechanisms were introduced to help the environment respond to changes in demand.
- 02
High availability and disaster recovery were built into the target environment as part of the migration. Multi-region connectivity provided resilience across regions, while AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (EDR) and automated failover strengthened disaster recovery readiness.
- 03
Security was addressed alongside the migration. The provider's Palo Alto Networks Firewall was integrated with the AWS environment, while its existing Microsoft Active Directory was integrated with AWS Identity Center.
Resilient, secure, and ready to scale
The migration successfully moved critical OSS and BSS workloads to AWS and improved the provider's ability to manage changing demand and infrastructure risk.
Multi-region resilience
Critical workloads gained high availability through resilient inter-region connectivity, reducing reliance on a single environment.
Enhanced security posture
GuardDuty, AWS Config, CloudTrail, and centralized logging established more consistent security and compliance controls across the environment.
Operational agility
On-demand scalability and improved monitoring reduced manual effort in managing workloads and responding to demand fluctuations.
Disaster recovery readiness
AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery and automated failover reduced business risk and strengthened the provider's ability to respond to infrastructure failures.
