How Stick Pool Club achieved 40%+ cost savings with automated blue-green deployments on AWS

Stick Pool Club is an online multiplayer real-money gaming platform offering Live Poker, 3D Poker, 8 Ball Pool, 9 Ball Pool, and CallBreak to players across the country. With plans for aggressive growth and an upcoming fantasy games launch, the studio needed its critical game servers to support higher demand without compromising the player experience. It also needed a way to release new versions without taking live games offline, roll back quickly when required, and scale infrastructure based on load. The Approach

A scalable AWS architecture backed by automated DevOps

Flentas migrated the gaming application to AWS and then introduced automation around deployment, scaling, monitoring, and infrastructure management.

    The AWS environment used Amazon EC2, Load Balancers, AWS Auto Scaling, and Amazon VPC to manage application workloads and separate environments. The application was also decoupled to make use of managed AWS services such as Amazon S3 and Redis.

    For application releases, Flentas implemented a blue-green deployment strategy. Bitbucket was used for source control, while AWS CodeDeploy handled release management, Amazon S3 stored deployment artifacts, and AWS CodePipeline orchestrated the deployment process.

    Automated alerts were added around blue-green deployments to provide visibility during releases. Flentas also provided 24/7 managed services covering infrastructure monitoring, security hardening, patch management, incident management, cloud governance, and cost optimization.
