How Money Fellows kept fintech data in Egypt while gaining cloud-native scalability

Money Fellows, an Egypt-based fintech serving 7M+ users, needed to scale its infrastructure without moving customer data outside the country. Flentas migrated its infrastructure to AWS Outposts, bringing AWS services into Money Fellows' own data center while maintaining data residency, strengthening security, and enabling cloud-native infrastructure management—all without disrupting ongoing operations.

The Challenge

Cloud scalability without moving data outside the country

Money Fellows needed the flexibility and scalability of AWS, but regulatory requirements meant user data had to remain within Egypt.

Data residency requirements

User data needed to remain within Egypt, alongside PCI DSS requirements.

Infrastructure complexity

Security and infrastructure operations needed to mature as the platform scaled.

Private connectivity

Secure connectivity with third-party vendors was required without compromising the environment.

The Approach

AWS infrastructure brought directly into the data center

Flentas designed and executed a phased AWS Outposts migration, keeping the infrastructure physically within Money Fellows' premises while adopting AWS-native services.

  1. 01

Designed the Outposts architecture with EC2, Load Balancers, RDS MySQL, and Local Gateway connectivity.

  2. 02

Built an ECS and ECR environment for containerized microservices, with VPC-based environment segregation.

  3. 03

Established secure Site-to-Site VPN connectivity with third-party vendors and strengthened firewall controls.

  4. 04

Executed a phased cutover—deploying ECS first, migrating applications progressively, and moving the database only after the application layer was stable.

Business Outcome

Compliant, scalable, and cloud-native—without leaving Egypt

Data residency maintained

With workloads running directly within Money Fellows' own data center.

Stronger security posture

With AWS security and governance best practices applied across the environment.

Near-zero RPO for MySQL

Establishing resilient database disaster recovery.

End-to-end monitoring

With CloudWatch dashboards and SNS alerts across Outposts infrastructure.

Repeatable infrastructure deployment

Using Terraform across Non-Prod and Production environments.

Zero-disruption migration

Achieved through a controlled, phased cutover rather than a single high-risk migration event.

“Flentas provided exceptional support during our AWS Outposts transition with invaluable expertise. Their seamless migration process showcased their extensive AWS knowledge. I strongly recommend Flentas for top-tier cloud services.”
