How Ketto secured and scaled Asia's largest crowdfunding platform on AWS

Ketto is one of Asia's largest crowdfunding platforms, helping individuals, corporates, and NGOs raise funds for medical emergencies, social causes, and innovative ideas. Founded in 2012, the platform had grown significantly, but its infrastructure was beginning to create constraints around performance, latency, security, and operational resilience. Ketto was also operating without a defined backup and disaster recovery setup, while limited monitoring and access controls made production management harder. Flentas migrated and hardened the infrastructure on AWS, introducing a more secure private network, automated backups, disaster recovery provisioning, continuous monitoring, and release management.

The Challenge

Growth outpacing infrastructure readiness

As Ketto's user base and platform activity grew, infrastructure limitations were becoming more visible.

Performance and latency issues

Scalability constraints, recurring server issues, and latency were affecting the platform's ability to support growing demand.

No backup or DR

There was no defined backup and retention policy for servers and no disaster recovery environment in place.

Weak access and visibility

Least-privilege access had not been implemented, while production teams lacked centralized logging and monitoring of key performance indicators.

The Approach

A phased move to a more secure AWS environment

Flentas approached the engagement as both a migration and infrastructure improvement exercise. The goal was to move Ketto's production environment to AWS while addressing the operational gaps that had emerged as the platform scaled.

  1. 01

Established continuous monitoring across multi-region AWS services using Amazon CloudWatch, tracking CPU, memory, and disk utilization with SNS alerts. Route 53 was also used for domain and API health checks.

  2. 02

Strengthened security by moving instances into a private network, implementing IAM password policies and MFA, and removing unused services that were adding unnecessary costs.

  3. 03

Automated daily, weekly, and monthly EC2 backups using Lambda scripts with defined retention. Flentas also built a full disaster recovery provisioning solution using AWS CloudFormation.

  4. 04

Introduced release management through AWS CodeCommit, CodeBuild, and CloudFormation, while AWS X-Ray provided visibility into API request times for performance analysis.

Business Outcome

Faster deployment, stronger security, and better operational visibility

Serverless architecture

Moving toward serverless components reduced infrastructure management overhead and supported faster service deployment.

Secured production environment

The lift-and-shift migration moved production servers into a private network behind a NAT Gateway.

Disaster recovery readiness

Automated backups and CloudFormation-based DR provisioning established a repeatable recovery setup.

Better production visibility

CloudWatch dashboards provided KPI monitoring, while X-Ray helped trace API performance and identify issues.

Faster error detection

CloudWatch Logs and Lambda were used to identify ERROR logs and route alerts through SES.

Optimized infrastructure

Ketto's environment was migrated to latest-generation AWS Nitro System instances to improve performance, cost efficiency, and security.

24x7 support

Continuous monitoring and production support enabled issues to be identified and addressed as they occurred.

A phased approach to continuous delivery is not only preferable; it’s infinitely more manageable, and working with Flentas has made this possible for us.
