How a Dubai-based BNPL FinTech scaled analytics and integrations without rewriting its core platform

A Dubai-based FinTech offering Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services across the UAE and Saudi Arabia had reached the limits of its original MVP. The platform needed better analytics, stronger integration capabilities, and greater visibility into application performance, but a complete architectural rewrite was not practical given the time, effort, and cost involved. Flentas began with a consulting deep dive into the application's architecture and infrastructure, identifying specific gaps and recommending targeted improvements. Instead of replacing the core platform, Flentas built an analytics pipeline, middleware layer, and observability solution around the existing architecture.

The Challenge

A fast-moving market and a platform that needed to mature

The BNPL market was evolving quickly, while the FinTech's MVP was not keeping pace with the capabilities the business needed.

Technical debt without a rewrite budget

The existing MVP had architectural limitations, but replacing it entirely would require significant time, effort, and investment.

Need for speed and maturity

The team needed to expand platform capabilities while improving development and deployment processes.

Limited in-house capacity

A limited workforce with newer technology skill sets made it difficult to address these gaps internally, creating a need for a technical partner that could move quickly.

The Approach

Consulting-led improvements around the existing architecture

Flentas started by understanding where the existing platform was falling short rather than immediately proposing a rewrite.

  1. 01

Architecture assessment: A detailed consulting deep dive covered the application and infrastructure architecture. The resulting gap report documented the issues identified and recommended solutions for each area.

  2. 02

Serverless analytics: Flentas built an AWS-based analytics pipeline using Amazon S3 as a data lake, Amazon Athena, Amazon QuickSight, AWS Lambda, AWS Glue, and AWS DMS. This provided customizable financial analysis reports for areas such as credit risk and portfolio performance.

  3. 03

Resilient integrations: A middleware layer using Amazon SQS and Kubernetes pod-based workers was introduced to support existing and future third-party integrations without creating direct dependencies between systems.

  4. 04

Application observability: Flentas implemented an observability solution using Zipkin, Elasticsearch, and Spring Sleuth. The solution covered both operational tracing, such as API performance, and business-level tracing for audit and contextual visibility.

Business Outcome

Better analytics, more reliable integrations, and faster issue resolution

The engagement improved the platform without requiring changes to its core architecture.

Scalable analytics pipeline

An analytics baseline was built within three months, giving the business team direct access to financial reports without depending on the core platform for every analysis.

Better third-party integrations

The middleware layer provided a more structured way to manage integrations and supported both current and future integration requirements.

Improved visibility

Application and business-level tracing gave teams greater visibility into API performance, service behavior, and anomalies.

Faster issue resolution

Better observability helped the team identify issues more quickly, improving turnaround times and service availability.
